HAIRCARE

Caring for hair extensions requires a diligent and sophisticated routine to maintain their quality and longevity. Here's a detailed guide on how to care for hair extensions at home, before / after swimming, before going to bed, and when using hot tools:

Before Swimming:

  • Prepping: Before entering the pool or ocean, apply a leave-in conditioner or a protective serum to create a barrier between your hair extensions and the harsh chemicals or saltwater.

  • Tying up: Gather your hair extensions into a loose braid or bun to minimize tangling and reduce exposure to chlorine or saltwater. You can secure the style with a soft scrunchie or hairpin.

After Swimming:

  • wash your hair and avoid letting your hair dry with chlorine / salt water. Gently comb after washing and conditioning hair.

Before Going to Bed:

  • Brushing: Gently detangle your hair extensions using a wide-toothed comb or brush before bed to prevent matting and tangling overnight.

  • Braiding: Create a loose braid to keep the hair extensions contained and minimize friction against the pillowcase. Use a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction further and prevent moisture loss.

Using Hot Tools:

  • Heat protectant: Apply a heat protectant spray or serum to your hair extensions before using any hot styling tools. This helps minimize heat damage and keeps the extensions healthy.

  • Temperature settings: Set your hot tools to a moderate heat setting to avoid excessive heat exposure. Lower temperatures are generally recommended for synthetic hair extensions.

  • Sectioning: Divide your hair extensions into small sections and style them one at a time. This ensures even heat distribution and reduces the risk of damage.

  • Avoid excessive use: Limit the frequency of using hot tools on your extensions to prevent dryness, brittleness, and potential damage.

Home Care Routine:

  • Brushing: Use a wide-toothed comb or a specially designed hair extension brush to gently detangle the extensions. Hold hair with one hand and with other hand begin brushing from the bottom and work your way up to minimize pulling and breakage.

  • Washing: Use a sulfate-free and extension-friendly shampoo and conditioner. Apply the shampoo to the scalp and gently massage, avoiding tugging on the extensions. Rinse thoroughly and apply conditioner from mid-length to ends, avoiding the roots.

  • Conditioning: Once a week, treat your hair extensions with a deep conditioning mask to restore moisture and keep them soft and shiny. Leave the mask on for the recommended time and rinse thoroughly.

  • Drying: Pat dry your hair extensions with a towel to remove excess water. Avoid rubbing vigorously, as it can cause tangling. Let them air dry whenever possible to minimize heat damage.
